Between fast fashion, Prime, and getting everything on-demand, it’s easy to get sucked into buying it all.
And before you know it, you've lost countless hours to the online shopping black hole, and your closet is overflowing.
This was us a few years ago.
Curious to give the whole decluttering thing a try, we consulted Marie Kondo’s best-seller The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up.
Initially, we were skeptical of the hype but figured the ‘KonMari Method’ was worth a test. After purging our wardrobes, we immediately began to see the benefits...
No 1. Saves You Time
Instead of sifting through our wardrobe to piece together an outfit, we can pinpoint exactly what we want to wear within a quick glance. This not only saves us time but starts the day with ease and decisiveness. By setting a positive tone, we're much more productive and confident the entire day.
No 2. Saves You Money
In the past, we would spend hours shopping aimlessly. If we were bored, we'd browse what was available and get lured by the latest trend or make a frivolous purchase just because we didn't want to come home empty-handed.
Or if we just wanted something new, we'd come home with similar versions of things I already owned like a pair of jeans that were only slightly different than the four pairs we already owned.
Through the process of decluttering, we know what we already own and can better identify what we truly want. Now we're much more intentional shoppers, we know exactly what we're looking for and have a tight list of criteria.
No 3. Changes Your Mindset
In addition to becoming more intentional shoppers, this practice of physical decluttering has also reduced our mental clutter. With this new clarity, we're now intentional with our time and money in all areas of our life. For instance, we now spend our energy on things that we truly value like time with friends and family, running, and blogging.
